I remember the first time Stew took me to West Kirby Marine lake. It was windy so we’d planned to go kiting. But not having been in a while he’d forgotten to check whether it was neaps or springs. The estuary is so shallow that when the tide goes out the water is 10 miles off shore and on a neap tide it only comes in 8miles. So even though we arrived just before high tide, because it was neaps I couldn’t even see the water from where we were . This often makes a nice afternoon stroll across the beach to Hilbre Island, approximately a mile off shore and accessible only at some states of tide.
Today it was a spring high tide, so he was pleased to show me the water really did come up to the wall. But with a light offshore breeze, not as ideal for kiting.
